We reckon South Africa has the most stunning scenery of any wine region in the world. But does it have wines to match? Like much else in that country, the wine industry is in a state of rapid change. Where once the state-owned co-operative, the KWV, dominated wine production, an increasing number of small wine estates, lead by a band of youthful, internationally-focused winemakers, are producing some genuinely top-class wines. The outlook has never been better.
“The natural advantages of the coastal region of the Cape are impressive … never any frost, never any hail, Autumn rain is rare and there are very few of the diseases that plague other vineyards.”
Hugh Johnson’s Wine Companion
“South Africa is fast becoming a fabulous source of delicious Sauvignon Blancs.”
